This month I find myself especially grateful for my Wylie RSE family.
Being part of this wonderful group of retired educators has become such a meaningful part of my life. I joined Wylie RSE in the fall right after I retired in 2022. At the time, both the president and the first vice president were former teachers I had worked with when I first began teaching in Wylie. That connection made it feel like the perfect place for me, and I was excited about the opportunity to reconnect with colleagues I had truly missed seeing.
In what feels like a very short time, this organization has given me friendships, encouragement, and a strong sense of community that I treasure.
After my first year as a member, I had the opportunity to serve on the executive board as first vice president from 2023 to 2025. Now, serving as president from 2025 to 2027 is an honor and a responsibility that I do not take lightly. I am incredibly humbled that this group of amazing educators has placed their trust in me to help lead our organization.
One of the things I appreciate most about Wylie RSE is the incredible people who make up this group. I am surrounded by educators who were not only mentors to me during my career but also colleagues and now dear friends. Through this organization, I truly feel like I have gained an extended family.
What makes it even more special is that our members come from many different schools and backgrounds. Some taught within Wylie ISD, while others came to Wylie after serving in different districts. Without Wylie RSE, many of us might never have had the opportunity to meet, connect, and build the relationships we now share.
In the four short years since I joined, I have learned so much, not only through Wylie RSE but also through our connection with TRTA. Through this organization, we continue to advocate for Texas teachers, while also supporting one another, staying engaged, and serving our community. It is inspiring to be part of a group of educators who remain passionate about education and about making a difference long after retirement.
I am truly grateful for the friendships, mentorship, and encouragement that come from being part of this wonderful group. My heart is full knowing that this chapter of life includes such an incredible community of educators who continue to inspire and uplift one another.
