As we begin a new year, gratitude feels especially meaningful. January is a time to reflect on the people who helped shape our paths, believed in us early on, and continued to invest in us along the way. This month, my gratitude is centered on someone who has had a lasting impact on both my personal and professional life: Beverly Skipper, the owner of Showtime International.
I have known Bev since I was in high school, when I attended Showtime camps as a student. Even then, I knew that if I ever became a high school director, I wanted to work for her. That dream became reality in 1994 when my career of teaching line and officer camps began. Over the years, my role has evolved from camps to contests and now to being entrusted with much of the behind-the-scenes work that helps to keep the company running. While I still work contests, I truly do a little bit of everything now, and I do not take that trust lightly.
Bev has taught me so much about organization, customer service, leadership, and professionalism. Many of the skills I rely on today were shaped by watching her lead with excellence and intention. It is because of her that I became known as the “binder queen” during my years as an educator, a title that still makes me smile and one that reflects lessons I learned directly from her example.
More than anything, Bev has always believed in me. She has supported my growth, encouraged my dreams, and invested in me in ways she may never fully realize. I will forever be grateful for all that she has instilled in me, both then and now. She has helped mold me into the professional I am today, and I am incredibly thankful to have her not only as a mentor and friend but also as a constant presence in my life.
